At the movies

Jag skulle ta flickorna på Shrek Forever After i 3D igår. Kom in på bion, försökte få ut mina förbokade biljetter från maskinen. Kortet känns inte igen. Till slut förstår jag att jag är på fel bio. Fick springa med barnen till den parkerade bilen för att köra dit där jag trodde att bion var (absolut mitt i smeten). Parkerar. Och nu har jag inte kontanter till biljetten. Snälla parkeringskillen accepterar att ta allt jag hade. Tack gud för bemannade parkeringar. Vi hann! (Och nej, filmen var inte så bra men hallå, 3D-effekterna vara coola.)

Went into the cinema, tried to get my pre-bought tickets from the machine. Card not recognized. Eventually realizes that I am in the wrong cinema. Had to run with the kids to the car to drive to where I thought the other cinema was, in the absolute middle of the city. Parks. Does not have money for parking! Nice parking guy will accept lower payment, thank god for manned parking lots. We made it! (And no, the movie was not particularly good, but hey, the 3D-effects were cool.)

My place in the sun

Imorgon blir det sol igen. Och det börjar bli trivsamt på terassen.
Tomorrow the sun will shine again. And the patio is turning out pretty nice.

Fire drill - Brandövning

Vi hade just årets mest realistiska brandövning. En unge i badet, en i duschen i källaren. Så gick brandlarmet. Öronbedövande. Drog ungarna ur bad och dusch, rafsade ihop kläder ur tvättkorgen - fel och för smått, ut med dem på trappen. Gick inte att få bort larmet. Stängde småningom dörren till badrummet. Efter en liten stund tystnade det. Jag tror det var fukten som utlöste det. Vilken chock. Men nu vet jag, ingen risk att någon sover sig igenom det ljudet åtminstone.

We just had this year's most realistic fire drill. One child in the tub, one in the shower. Then the alarm went off. Ear-splitting noise. Dragged the girls out of tub and shower, found clothes (wrong sizes), out on the stairs. Alarm could not be turned off. After a while I closed the door to the bathroom and after a little while the sound went off. I think the humidity triggered the alarm. What a shock. But now I know that there is no risk of sleeping through that noise.

Only in Canada

Bara i Kanada har de vägar som är i så dålig kondition att tjälskador leder till att trafiken stängs av mitt i stan. Bara i Kanada, mina vänner.

Only in Canada are the roads in such a bad condition that they have potholes that stop traffic in the middle of the city. Only in Canada, my friends.
